President Donald Trump says the United States and Iran are close to reaching an agreement aimed at ending the current armed standoff.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said a “Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to peace” had been largely negotiated, though he added that the agreement still needs to be finalized between the United States, Iran and several other countries involved in the talks.
Trump said he had spoken with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan, Turkey and Pakistan about efforts to resolve the crisis.
The president said the agreement is mostly complete, but that some final details are still being discussed.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also suggested that progress had been made. Speaking during a visit to India, Rubio said negotiations with Iran were moving forward and that the administration could have more to announce soon.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei also said Washington and Tehran were moving closer to a shared understanding to end the conflict.
Pakistan has played a role in the talks, with Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir serving as a key intermediary. Pakistani officials described Munir’s visit to Tehran as brief but productive and said it had helped move discussions closer to a final understanding.
Despite signs of progress, major disagreements remain.
Rubio repeated the Trump administration’s position that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. He said Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium and its enrichment activity remain central issues that must be addressed.
Iran has long argued that its nuclear program is peaceful and that uranium enrichment is part of its sovereign rights. U.S. officials, however, continue to view Iran’s nuclear development as a major security concern.
Rubio also said the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and safe for international shipping without tolls or restrictions.
The waterway has become a major flashpoint during the conflict. After U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, Iranian forces began targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also sought to formalize control over safe passage through tolls, while Trump responded with a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and maritime trade.
According to Baqaei, the current negotiations center on a 14-point memorandum that would end the armed conflict, lift the U.S. blockade and ease sanctions to allow the release of blocked Iranian assets.
He said the initial agreement could also set the stage for future talks, possibly within 30 to 60 days, on Iran’s nuclear program and other unresolved issues.
The potential deal would mark a major diplomatic development as Washington, Tehran and regional governments try to avoid a broader conflict in the Middle East.
