Los Angeles officials say a string of residential burglaries across the San Fernando Valley was carried out by South American theft crews targeting homes in wealthy neighborhoods.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the crimes as brazen, calculated and predatory, saying organized burglary groups have been breaking into homes and stealing valuables from residents.
Authorities said the crews allegedly targeted multiple homes across the San Fernando Valley, an area that has seen growing concern over residential break-ins and organized theft.
The case has drawn attention because officials believe the suspects are connected to South American burglary groups, which law enforcement agencies have warned are increasingly operating in major U.S. cities.

Prosecutors said these crews often use planning, surveillance and fast entry methods to target homes when residents are away. In some cases, suspects allegedly monitor neighborhoods, look for signs that homes are empty and move quickly once inside.
The burglaries have alarmed local residents who say they are worried about safety, property crime and whether enough is being done to stop organized criminal groups.
Hochman said the crimes were not random and argued that prosecutors must respond aggressively when criminal crews target families and neighborhoods.
Law enforcement officials have been working to identify suspects, connect related cases and determine whether the burglaries are part of a larger organized theft pattern.
The incidents come as Los Angeles continues dealing with public concern over crime, repeat offenders and organized theft rings.
Police have urged residents to secure doors and windows, use security cameras, report suspicious vehicles and avoid publicly posting travel plans that could signal when homes are vacant.
The case is expected to add pressure on city and county leaders to address organized burglary networks and improve coordination between local police, prosecutors and federal agencies.
For residents in affected areas, the arrests and charges may bring some relief, but officials warn that organized theft crews remain a continuing threat.
The investigation is ongoing as prosecutors move forward with charges and authorities review whether additional suspects or cases may be connected.
