Dan Bongino fired back at former President Barack Obama after Obama warned against using government power to target political enemies.
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and former FBI deputy director, responded after Obama appeared on late-night television and spoke about what he described as the dangers of government overreach.
During the interview, Obama said the country cannot allow the people in power to use government agencies against political opponents.
“We can’t have a situation in which whoever is in charge of the government starts using that to go after their political enemies,” Obama said.

The former president also argued that the White House should not pressure the nation’s top law enforcement officials to pursue specific prosecutions.
His comments quickly drew reaction from conservatives, who accused Obama of ignoring controversies from his own administration and the broader debate over federal agencies allegedly being used against President Donald Trump and his allies.
Bongino responded sharply, suggesting that Obama should be careful about making claims regarding government overreach.
As a former Secret Service agent, Bongino once helped protect Obama. But in his political and media career, he has become one of the former president’s strongest critics.
Bongino said he knows things about how Washington works and suggested he is not done speaking out.
The exchange comes at a time when the Trump administration and its supporters are focusing heavily on what they call the weaponization of government.
That issue has become central to Trump’s second-term agenda, including investigations into past federal actions, criticism of the Justice Department and the creation of an Anti-Weaponization Fund for people who claim they were politically targeted.
Obama’s remarks were framed as a warning about future abuses of power. But Trump supporters argued that the warning sounded hypocritical given their claims about federal investigations into Trump, his campaign and his allies.
The dispute highlights how deeply the debate over law enforcement, political investigations and presidential power has divided Washington.
For Democrats, Obama’s comments reflect concern that government institutions must remain independent and protected from political pressure.
For conservatives, Bongino’s response reflects years of frustration over investigations they believe were politically motivated.
The back-and-forth is likely to fuel further debate over whether federal agencies have been used fairly or politically in recent years.
