Two suspects were arrested after allegedly breaching a gate at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton during a police pursuit, triggering a six-hour manhunt and leading authorities to discover more than 112 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl inside an abandoned vehicle.
The incident happened at the Southern California military installation after local law enforcement attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicle. According to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the suspects fled from local authorities, entered the base through a gate and then abandoned their vehicle in a military housing area before running away on foot.
The breach prompted officials to issue a temporary shelter-in-place order while military and law enforcement personnel worked to secure the area and locate the suspects. Camp Pendleton is one of the largest Marine Corps bases in the country and includes military housing areas where service members and their families live.
NCIS described the incident as a high-stakes security breach and said a coordinated multi-agency search was launched immediately. About 30 personnel were involved in the response, including NCIS personnel, the Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal’s Office and other federal, state and local agencies.

After the arrests, investigators searched the vehicle and found approximately 51 kilograms — more than 112 pounds — of cocaine and fentanyl, according to NCIS.
Officials have not publicly released the names of the suspects. Authorities also had not immediately announced the exact charges they may face, though local reporting said the case is expected to be handled by federal authorities.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Border Patrol and other responding agencies were also credited by NCIS for assisting with the operation.
