A church anniversary celebration in Virginia turned tragic Friday evening when severe weather caused a large outdoor tent to collapse, killing one person and injuring 22 others, according to local officials.
The incident happened at EastLake Community Church in Moneta, a community in Bedford County about 124 miles southwest of Richmond. The church was holding an outdoor service as part of its 20th anniversary celebration when heavy rain, lightning and strong winds moved through the area.
Officials said attendees were in the process of leaving the event tent when it came down.
